According to federal authorities, an 85-year-old man in Washington, D.C. was taken into custody after he reportedly killed his 81-year-old wife with a knife because he refused to eat the pancakes she had made.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia released a statement accusing Steven Schwartz of killing stabbing his wife Sharron Schwartz at their house on Sunday. He stabbed her in the back because, according to the authorities, “he did not want to eat the pancakes she made.”
Police were called to a house in Northwest Washington, D.C. on Sunday following a report of a stabbing. Officers discovered 81-year-old Sharon Schwartz inside their flat, bleeding profusely from stab wounds. Additionally, Steven Schwartz, 85, was discovered by police to have “self-inflicted injuries.”
The woman passed away after they were both sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police said Steven Schwartz was taken into custody and accused of second-degree murder while carrying a weapon.
Steven Schwartz submitted a not-guilty plea before a judge via video on Thursday. The judge detained him without bond after finding probable grounds to believe he committed the murder.
The date of his upcoming hearing is January 2.
