A 28-year-old woman has been arrested for assaulting her mother by throwing grits at her face during a heated argument over pizza.
Jakiela Mobley was taken into custody and formally charged with battery following an incident that occurred in Marion County on Monday morning, as stated in an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Mobley informed deputies that she had been sleeping on the street in Ocala on Sunday night. However, she reached out to her mother, requesting a ride so that she could find a warm place to sleep, according to the affidavit. The following morning, Mobley informed her mother of her intention to prepare a pizza in the oven. In response, her mother offered her the option of having some grits or preparing another breakfast dish.
“She didn’t have to make a pizza,” the mother stated regarding her daughter, as stated in the affidavit.
Mobley engaged in a heated dispute with her mother, resulting in her impulsively flinging a handful of grits at her face, as stated in the affidavit.
Mobley attempted to shift responsibility onto her mother, alleging that she intentionally struck herself with the grits to fabricate evidence of being assaulted, according to the affidavit. Deputies, however, observed traces of grits on the side of Mobley’s mother’s face, along with a hand-shaped mark in the grits, providing support for the mother’s account.
Mobley, with a history of battery arrests, was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. She is currently held on a $2,500 bond.
