Andre Braugher, Known For ‘Homicide: Life On The Street’ And ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Has Died At The Age Of 61

Andre Braugher, has passed away. He was 61 years old when he won two Emmys for his work on television, which included Homicide: Life on the Street, Men of a Certain Age, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Sunday, following a brief illness, Braugher, whose debut film role was in the Ed Zwick film Glory alongside Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington, passed away.

Many will recall Braugher for his menacing performance as Detective Frank Pembleton on the NBC drama Homicide: Life on the Street, despite the fact that his filmography also included comedies. A weekly measure of tour de force acting, unparalleled in television at the time, could have been obtained by placing him in the box, where he would perspire and outsmart criminal suspects in the interrogation room. He met his wife, the actress Ami Brabson, on Homicide, the series in which he appeared from 1992 to 1998. For that season, he won an Emmy. John Wesley, Michael, and Isaiah Braugher, are her sons; Charles Jennings Braugher, his brother; and Sally Braugher, his mother, survive her. Additionally, he departs from his representative team of the previous quarter-century, which included WME agent Brandt Joel, attorney Keith Klevan, and publicist Jennifer Allen of Viewpoint.

He won the Emmy in 1998, as well as two Television Critics Association Awards in 1997 and 1998.

Braugher, who was born and raised in Chicago and holds an M.F.A. from Juilliard and a B.A. from Stanford University, most recently appeared as a co-star in the drama film She Said, which retells the story of New York Times journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohy. Their investigative work prompted the prosecution of Harvey Weinstein and ignited the #MeToo movement. He portrayed the Times’ executive editor, Dean Baquet, who supervised the two reporters.

As his next endeavor, Braugher was slated to star in the Netflix series Residence. In the sixth and final season of the legal drama The Good Fight on Paramount+, he co-starred with Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald. Ri’Chard Lane, a showman barrister and rainmaker, was his role.

Braugher co-starred with Andy Samberg for eight seasons on the hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. For his portrayal as Captain Ray Holt, the series earned him two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and four Emmy Award nominations.
