An educator in central Missouri has been apprehended in Texas following allegations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage student and subsequently fleeing the state.
Last week, 26-year-old Hailey Nichelle Clifton-Carmack was apprehended by authorities during her visit to family in the vicinity of San Antonio, Texas. In a recent Facebook post, the Garden Ridge Police Department announced that charges have been filed against her. These charges include second-degree statutory rape, endangering the welfare of a child, sexual contact with a student, and fourth-degree child molestation.
According to authorities, Clifton-Carmack has been taken into custody and is currently being held in a county jail in Texas. They are now in the process of arranging for their return to Missouri. Online, she is listed as a high school math teacher in Laquey, Missouri, which is approximately 145 miles southwest of St. Louis.
According to court documents, a witness informed a school resource officer about a sexual relationship involving Clifiton-Carmack and another student, as reported by ABC 17 News. According to the outlet, the witness was presented with photographs by the victim, showing scratches that were allegedly caused during the sexual interaction. Additionally, the witness overheard a suspicious phone call between Clifton-Carmack and the victim.
According to court documents, after police obtained messages between the two individuals, a warrant was issued for her arrest and a bond of $250,000 was set.
According to ABC 17 News, the father of the victim is facing charges of first-degree child endangerment. It is alleged that he had knowledge of the sexual relationship but failed to take any action to intervene. There is a warrant out for his arrest, but it is still uncertain whether he has been apprehended by the police.
