The Great Tree Lighting at Macy’s has always been a beloved tradition during the holiday season, attracting families and visitors from far and wide to experience the breathtaking spectacle of lights and merriment.
The tradition started at Rich’s department store in downtown Atlanta. After the store closed in 1991, it relocated to Underground Atlanta. In 2000, the location was relocated to Lenox Square.
Macy’s has made the decision to bid farewell to yet another holiday tradition, Priscilla the Pink Pig. After taking a break in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been decided that Priscilla will not be returning in 2021.
The Pink Pig, a delightful ride, first debuted in 1953 at Rich’s department store. It had a short period of time at Egleston Hospital as well. In 2003, Priscilla relocated to Lenox Square and set up shop on the upper-level parking deck of Macy’s. Families can embark on a delightful train ride through a life-size storybook, where they’ll encounter the beloved Pink Pig and other charming characters.
Macy’s has not provided any information regarding the factors that influenced their choice to discontinue the tree lighting tradition.
