On Wednesday night, Elijah Pritchett, an offensive lineman for Alabama, was arrested by the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, has confirmed to Nick Alvarez of AL.com that Pritchett has been charged with knowingly transmitting a sexually transmitted disease.
Stephen Dethrage and Wyatt Fulton from the Tuscaloosa Thread were the ones who broke the news about Pritchett’s arrest.
Alvarez mentioned that a warrant had been issued for Pritchett’s arrest under the state code following the filing of a report against him on December 13th.
The code states that individuals who knowingly transmit or engage in behavior that could likely transmit a sexually transmitted disease to another person are subject to legal consequences (h/t Alvarez).
The offense is classified as a Class C misdemeanor, which entails a potential jail term of three months and a maximum fine of $500. He was freed from custody on Wednesday after paying a $500 bond.
Alvarez mentioned that a request for comment from an Alabama spokesperson went unanswered for the time being.
Pritchett is currently in his second season with the Crimson Tide. He emerged as a highly sought-after prospect in the 2022 class, hailing from Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia.
Pritchett has been a consistent presence on the field, playing in all 13 games this season after redshirting as a freshman. He has predominantly operated as a left tackle within the offense, and has also contributed on special teams. He initially intended to enter the transfer portal but had a change of heart.
Alabama is set to face off against the top-ranked team, Michigan, in the highly anticipated Rose Bowl on January 1st. This matchup marks the first College Football Playoff semifinal of the season.
