Celine Dion Has Lost Control Of Her Muscles Following Battle With Stiff-Person Syndrome

Celine Dion’s sister recently provided an emotional update on the singer’s health as she bravely confronts stiff person syndrome.

Last December, the renowned Canadian singer, known for her iconic song “My Heart Will Go On,” received a diagnosis of an exceptionally rare neurological disorder. This disorder leads to the body’s immune system attacking its own nerve cells.

She’s putting in a lot of effort, but she lacks control over her muscles. It’s truly heartbreaking to hear that she has always been so disciplined,” her older sister, Claudette, shared with French magazine 7 Jours, as reported by Hello! She has consistently put in a great deal of effort. Our mother always encouraged her, saying, ‘You’ll excel at it, you’ll do it right.’

Dion, who is 55 years old, had to cancel her Courage world tour because of her diagnosis. However, Claudette, who is 75 years old, hinted at a possible return.

Both in our dreams and hers, the ultimate aspiration is to make a triumphant comeback on the stage. What role are you referring to? “I’m not sure,” Claudette said.

Stiff person syndrome is a condition that gradually impairs mobility and unfortunately has no known cure. Typically, individuals between the ages of 30 and 50 are diagnosed with this condition, as reported by Columbia University. In addition, it can lead to muscle spasms that are quite uncomfortable.

Claudette explained, “The vocal cords and the heart are both muscles.” This is what haunts me. Due to its rarity, scientists have conducted limited research on this particular case as it has not impacted a significant number of individuals.

She told fans about her diagnosis in an emotional Instagram video last year.

“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having,” she explained. “As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now.”

Dion continued, “Unfortunately, these [muscle] spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
