From high to low

Houston leads the nation in “cockroaches” 37% of their homes have roaches,

Houston takes the top spot on our list of the cities with the highest cockroach infestation rates in America. According to the Census Bureau, a staggering 37% of respondents reported seeing signs of these pests in their Houston homes within the last year. What could be the reason behind all those bugs? The scorching heat and suffocating humidity. Many individuals despise the scorching heat, yet cockroaches flourish in such circumstances.

In Houston, you’ll come across two prevalent types of cockroaches: the large, brown, and airborne American cockroach (also known as the palmetto bug) and the German cockroach, which tends to make itself at home in the kitchen, pantry, and sink.

How can you prevent these pesky intruders from infiltrating your living space? Ensure all points of entry are sealed, eliminate any crumbs, and repair any leaky pipes. When traditional pest control methods fail, it’s time to bring in the experts.

Cities in the southern region such as Tampa, Florida and Phoenix tend to have a higher prevalence of roaches in its motels.

San Antonio ranked second on our list, with 28.32% of homes indicating roach infestations within the last year. Tampa, Florida, Phoenix, and Las Vegas made their way to the Top 5, slowly but surely.

All of these cities experience warm and sunny summers, which attract roaches, and their winters are not cold enough to eliminate them. What temperature is required to freeze these creepy crawlies?

Roaches are unable to withstand temperatures below 45 degrees F, but it is crucial to sustain this temperature for an extended period of time. And if temperatures gradually decrease (or increase), these creatures have the ability to adjust. When exposed to freezing temperatures, cockroaches will perish in just half an hour.

More information on cockroaches:

Roaches can also trigger allergic reactions due to their excrement and shed skins. Roaches can trigger various allergy symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and watery eyes. Additionally, they have the potential to cause severe bronchial inflammation, which can be life-threatening for individuals with asthma.

Roaches, particularly the winged variety, have been known to bite unsuspecting individuals while they are peacefully asleep. It’s a rare occurrence, but it can happen more frequently if you remain relatively still during sleep.
